A new set of machine learning techniques called generative AI, which enables computers to write text, draw drawings, and produce other material that resembles human output, will be the focus of a new product group that Meta will establish within the company.
The action is being taken as large technology businesses and well-funded startups compete to highlight improvements in machine learning methods and incorporate AI models into their products.
According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook post, the unit would bring together a number of teams from Meta. The new team will be organized under Chris Cox, the existing chief product officer.
According to Zuckerberg, the group would create "creative and expressive" technologies for use in Meta's products.
We're experimenting with text-based experiences (like messaging in WhatsApp and Messenger), visual experiences (like inventive Instagram filters and ad formats), and multi-modal experiences, according to Zuckerberg. Before moving on to the truly futuristic experiences, there is a lot of basic work to be done, but I'm looking forward to all the new things we'll create along the way.
For instance, massive language models developed by OpenAI have been incorporated into ChatGPT, a different chatbot from Microsoft Bing. Google is also developing a chatbot by the name of Bard.
Snap revealed on Monday that a ChatGPT bot would be incorporated into the Snapchat app.
Last week, Meta unveiled LLaMA, a brand-new big language model. At the time, Meta said that its models stand out because they are accessible to researchers, smaller, and more affordable to utilize than larger models.
The declaration was also a signal that Meta, a company that conducts a lot of AI research, was not going to allow rivals catch up to it in the race.
